Clive Wellings joins Coralspin

Drummer Clive Wellings has joined Coralspin. Clive is a superb drummer whose influences include Bill Bruford, John Bonham, John Marshall, Tony Williams, Pierre Moerlen and Ginger Baker. He will bring a wealth of experience to the band and will make a great contribution to the Coralspin sound.

Coralspin have started rehearsals again and will be out playing gigs to promote their first album, which is due for release early 2010.

Drummer wanted - new recordings - album update

Drummer wanted:
Due to work pressures and his commitments on the tribute circuit (a circuit where they regularly pay you, imagine that!) our drummer Dave has had to relinquish the Coralspin drum stool. So we are looking for a new drummer. This is a chance for a hot-but-under-appreciated drummer to walk into a ready-made top-flight band who have an album about to come out, and venues ready to have us play live. More details here.

New recordings:
We have now put up some draft mixes of five of our songs from the forthcoming first album on MySpace. But you'd be better off listening to the much better quality mp3s on our main webpage here.

Album update:
As far as the album goes, we have done draft mixes of six out of eight songs now (well, the sixth is almost ready). The vocals have only just started being done, though, so we can expect some changes there. There's also some more keyboards and a bit of guitar still to do, as well as the mixes of the last two songs.

Album recording update

Recording and mixing has been going slowly but surely. We've done all the drum tracks and almost all the bass tracks, and Jake has done a fair amount of the guitar work.

We have a good mix of our monster track Sons of the Sleeping Giant done, minus the vocals, which you can find (along with a video of Steve in action) at our homepage coralspin.com, and also on our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/coralspin.

Recording starts!

We’ve finally got the recording of our first album underway, and we’ve had the champagne out to celebrate. The drum recordings sound fantastic, making all the work on acoustic treatment for our little project studio worth it. We’ve got a lot of killer songs, and now we’ll have a killer sound on record to match them.

Dave’s kit is a sight to behold -- it’s like something a giant would play. And it sounds like it as well!

What we're doing, early Spring 2008

Good news -- Scott has finished building our new quad-core dual-terabyte recording-monster studio computer. We did a quick and dirty recording of last week's rehearsal, and everything was working fine.

We've also put the finishing touches on our acoustic treatment, so we're all set up ready to start recording some new tracks. We're all champing at the bit to get on with it. The band is playing up a storm, and these recordings are going to be something else!

The first step will be to lay down some drum tracks, and that means David taking his practice kit out of the studio and bringing in his colossal main kit, which is awesome.

Updating the sound treatment in our studio

One thing we've been up to recently is improving the sound treatment in our project studio. This should allow us to improve our recordings -- and you can expect some of those to appear in a few months featuring our "rhythm section to die for".
